What if we imagined the intranet of tomorrow together? What communications professionals (really) think!

Gone are the days when an intranet was simply a meager information library… Today, it is a real lever for collaboration ! 🚀 More than ever, companies are looking to (re)build connections, boost engagement, and strengthen their internal culture. 🥊 Their ultimate weapon? The intranet. But this strategic tool must also live up to the demanding expectations of employees.

👉 130 communication professionals answered our questionsWhat will tomorrow's intranet look like? Benefit from their insightful, sometimes ruthless, but always constructive visions! 👀 Results of a groundbreaking survey Powell x We Are COM.

The digital world, a tense digital context…

Between opportunity and saturation, digital tools are divisive. Because, while professionals recognize that they promote information sharing (86%) and collaboration (79%), they also express marked weariness: emotional overload (92%) and cognitive fatigue (73%).

However, contrary to popular belief, communications professionals give a score of 6,4/10 to the quality of communication in the digital age. This reveals a paradox: Digital tools simplify exchanges, while also contributing to making them more complex. 🎯 And it is in this contrasting landscape that the intranet of tomorrow must find its place.

The intranet, an essential tool that struggles to convince…

Communications professionals acknowledge that the tool remains essential, as evidenced by the high frequency of use rated at 7,3/10. 😕 However, satisfaction remains low, with a score not exceeding 5,8/10.

Indeed, less than a quarter of users declare themselves to be truly satisfied (24%), a figure that raises questions about the ergonomics, engagement and relevance of the intranet. Ultimately, this useful but uninspiring tool is consulted more out of necessity than desire.

Personalization, a major omission from the intranet…

In a world where users shape their own digital environment, intranets remain surprisingly static. The survey reveals that nearly half of all intranets still offer no personalization options (43%), a striking figure when compared to the overwhelming demand for personalization expressed by employees (87%).

This gap between the reality of the tool and user expectations highlights a necessary transformation. 🧰 The intranet must evolve towards a service-oriented approach, capable of truly supporting employees as closely as possible to their needs.

Decision-makers and contributors, a dialogue to (re)establish…

On the decision-making side, listening to feedback from contributors is a top priority (71%). However, the feeling among contributors is quite different. They rate their sense of being heard at only 6,1 out of 10. 📣 This subtle but significant difference underlines the need for strengthened dialogue, a deep aspiration for co-creation.

The intranet is a collective tool. It is by integrating employees more into the discussions that we must consider the functionalities of tomorrow.

2030, a smart, social and fun intranet…

How do you envision the intranet of 2030? 🤖 The responses reveal a decisive turning point in intranet usage: the rise of artificial intelligence (69%)! AI is emerging as a major driver for simplifying access to information, accelerating searches, and personalizing content. Moreover, companies themselves seem to have begun this technological transition, rating their relationship with AI at 6,2/10.

Beyond the technology, it is the uses that are evolving. Communications professionals envision an intranet inspired by social networks, a platform that blends discussion and co-creation spaces, professional communities, enriched editorial formats and more informal interaction areas: streaming, gamification…

🙏 Finally, The intranet of the future is described as a living and unifying universe, in which technology supports user-friendliness rather than replacing it.

The challenge for the future: humanity…

This investigation reveals a major lesson: The intranet can no longer be considered a simple functional tool. It now embodies a cultural, organizational and fundamentally human challenge! The intranet of tomorrow must be a dynamic space, both simple and intelligent, customizable and inclusive, efficient and welcoming.

The intranet of the future will be the backbone of the internal culture, a tool capable of supporting teams with ease and fostering a sense of belonging. ♥️ In other words, It will be at the service of humanity.
