An ancestor of the newspaper and the name of the first French weekly news sheet (created in 1631 by Théophraste Renaudot). The term “gazette” comes from the Italian gazetta, which means a small Venetian coin, corresponding to the price of a newspaper. Today, gazettes are devoted to social events and current affairs and are increasingly rare.
