Rumor

Definition: A rumor is an imaginary story whose origin is unknown and which is not based on any real or verifiable fact. A rumor is transmitted widely by word of mouth and then its spread is amplified by the media. Rumors are generally based on prejudices or stereotypes. The sociologist Edgar Morin studied the phenomenon of rumor diffusion in the social body by studying a rumor in 1969 in Orléans reporting the disappearance of young women in the changing rooms of stores.
