The Green Communicator's 10 Tips

La responsible communication That's great, but do we all apply our pretty words to our everyday actions? Not sure... 🤓 We're not throwing stones at you, it's not always easy to know which green attitudes to adopt!  

So where do we start to save the planet, or at least preserve it as best we can? La We Are COM team reveals its 10 small, super concrete green gestures to initiate change on a daily basis. 🌱 A reassuring article, which demonstrates that taking action for the environment can be done quite simply.  

#1 – Compress your visuals 📸

Photos or videos, remember to systematically compress your visuals, because to communicate green, every kilobyte counts ! How to make your files smaller? Nothing could be simpler, you just need the right tools: TinyPNG, HandBrake, etc.  

And between us, no one likes waiting for a visual to load...  

#2 – Turn off autoplay of videos ⏹️

The video that starts by itself is not a revolution, it's an aberration! Let the user decide what to watch. Their experience certainly isn't a one-click affair.  

#3 – Sort your image banks 🎞️

Enough with the folders titled "visual_vdef_final_bis_ok". Sort, archive and delete the unnecessary files that clutter your servers. As a bonus, a tidy media library saves time for the team. 

#4 – Turn off your camera 🎥

Did you know that video increases the carbon footprint of a video conference by 10?  Of course, it's not always possible to do without it. So, keep your camera plugged in only when necessary. A creative brainstorming session? Okay. A weekly follow-up meeting? Radio mode will suffice. And frankly, it allows you to stay in your pajamas on Monday morning! 

#5 – Optimize your signature ✍🏻

Your logo. HD signatures, no matter how gorgeous, are a drain on the planet. We need to be eco-friendly, even in our email signatures. A well-thought-out text and a clearly visible link are all you need to sign responsibly. 

#6 – Send your mailings during off-peak hours 🕰️

Breaking news: an email at 10:30 a.m. or 15:30 p.m. uses less energy! So prefer to schedule your campaigns and newsletters during off-peak hours and thus limit server overload.  

#7 – Recycle your content ♻️

What if your article became an infographic? What if your LinkedIn carousel became a podcast? Creating less is better, both for the planet and for your schedule!  

#8 – Choose media that are suitable for their use 🖨️

For digital, The black background on your slides is not just chic, it's also responsible. Indeed, dark colors reduce the energy consumption of your screens.  

But if you have to print your slides, opt for a presentation without a colored background to limit ink usage. 

#9 – Store your files on responsible servers 📊

We call it green hosting! Do your providers use data centers powered by renewable energy? If so, congratulations, that's already a great victory. If not, it's time to fix it.    

#10 – Encourage BYOM ☕️

Hmm… Here's an acronym you don't have? BYOM is “Bring Your Own Mug”. No more disposable cups, make way for personalized (or logoed) cups! It’s more eco-friendly and more decorative. And what's more, it creates a lot of offbeat conversations at the coffee machine.
